Investor Outreach Cold Email

Most investor cold emails fail for one of two reasons: they're too long, or they lead with the product instead of traction. Investors receive hundreds of pitches per week. This template is engineered to pass the '10-second scan' test — it leads with traction, states what you do in one sentence, and makes a single, specific ask. Personalize it for each investor based on their portfolio and thesis.

How to use this template

  1. 1Research each investor before sending — the {{portfolio_company}} and {{connection_reason}} variables must be genuine and specific.
  2. 2Lead with your strongest traction metric in the subject line. If you don't have traction yet, lead with a bold vision statement.
  3. 3Only include metrics you can back up in a follow-up conversation. Investors will ask about every number.
  4. 4Aim for a warm introduction when possible. A direct intro from a mutual contact converts 5x better than a cold email.
  5. 5Send on Tuesday–Thursday, 7–9am in the investor's timezone.

Frequently asked questions

Under 150 words is the target. Investors skim emails. If your key information isn't visible in the first 4–5 lines, you've already lost them. Attach a one-pager or deck only if they reply and ask for it.
